Rebate Management Explained
There are three overarching rebate types.
- Transactional rebates are incentives paid to end-consumers for purchasing a product or service. Instant discounts are a form of transactional rebates where the incentive is fulfilled upstream to the channel partner or ally.
- Dealer rebate agreements and/or special pricing agreements are incentives offered to channel partners to increase market share. Dealer rebates are annual bill credits based on total sales, growth, or product line performance. Special pricing agreements are specific to a project or customer and allow the channel partner to purchase at a special prices provided certain commitments are met.
- Vendor rebates are common with associations and buying groups seeking to earn income from their efforts to pool influence with suppliers.
In many cases, these programs run concurrently meaning multiple incentives may be available for the same sale. Successful rebate management requires program managers actively coordinate all elements of each program style from the design and publishing of new programs, intaking claims or sales data, running simple and complex calculations, processing requests, fulfilling payments and credits, tracking analytics, and reporting program outcomes.
